Miscellaneous: Difference between http:// and https://

Hello guys, it's been a while. Workload from sch's been murder, and there hasn't been much interesting emails received recently. This is just stuff FYI, good to know. Hope I can get some funny stuff to share soon. Cheers. =P - Espen

The S stands for "Secure".

If you visit a website or webpage with http://, this means that the website is linked to your computer using the normal unsecured manner. This means it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's data transmission with the website.

If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you sent to that site. If a website ever asks you to enter your credit card information, you should check to see if the address begins with https://. If it doesn't, there's no way you're going to enter sensitive information like your credit card number!
